Rajat Tokas and Shweta Basu Prasad look fabulous in their regal avatar for Chandra Nandini on Star Plus
Star Plus’ show Chandra Nandini is one of the most lavish shows for the channel. It is produced by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms and has Rajat Tokas and Shweta Basu Prasad in lead roles. It tells the story of Mauryan Emperor, Chandragupta Maurya and princess Nandini. It is an intense love story with a historical backdrop. The show will air from October 10 8.30pm on the channel. It takes the slot of Mere Angne Mein. The show has been under conception since a few years now. We have seen a show on Ashoka, now this is one on the legendary Chandragupta Maurya who was the father of Bindusara. Actor Ashish Sharma has once played Chandragupta Maurya onscreen.
Rajat Tokas who is a sort of historical specialist on TV is playing the lead role. The actor has been preparing for his role for a really long time. Star Plus was really keen to have Rajat onboard. It seems director Santram Verma was initially roped in to direct ths series but Rajat put his foot down. The two had a fall out during Jodha Akbar, which was big news in the industry. The producer and channel decided to keep Rajat instead of Santram on the show. Chandragupta Maurya’s life is pretty interesting to be chronicled into a show.
Shweta Basu Prasad is the leading lady of the show. In reality, historians says Chandragupta’s wife Durdhara was daughter of his maternal uncle. However, in the serial Nandini is the daughter of Dhana Nanda. He was the ruler of Pataliputra before the Mauryans came and dethroned them. Ekta Kapoor who wants to reportedly resurrect Shweta Basu Prasad’s career gave her the role. She has also worked earlier on the soap Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki. The National Award winning actress will play the role of a warrior princess.
Nandini the daughter of Dhana Nanda was well versed in warfare and martial arts. She gets married to Chandragupta Maurya as part of the war treaty but hates him to the core. Her idea is to kill him to avenge the death of her relatives in the hands of the Mauryan emperor.
Nandini wants to kill him but their relationship changes over a period of time. It is a love story, which is often talked about in history. Ekta Kapoor is planning to bring forth the love story through Chandra Nandini. The show’s promos have got a mixed response. We saw the last soap on the Mauryan Empire, Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat not getting good reviews after the leap. Will this one do justice to the great ruler?
